What is it/ represent?
- It is an Acadian Flag adopted since 1884. It has tricolour like France Flag
- (Blue, white, and red). A golden star is placed in the upper part of the blue field which represents the “Stella Maris” (star of the sea) to give it the Acadian distinction. “Stella Maris”, Acadian’s Lady of Assumption, seeks the protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary and indicates hope and the guiding of the future.
Acadians brief history:
- Acadians are original French people. They settled in the areas now called Nova Scotia, New Brunswick since the early 17th century. The first Acadian flag was designed by Father Marcel-Francois Richard and Miss Marie Babineau at the Musse acadien de l’Universite de Moncton, in Moncton, New Brunswick.
This represents the difficulty of Acadians embracing both a
Canadian national identity, and a French Canadian national identity.
